Board Member Spotlight: Robin Aufdenkampe

January 23rd, 2017

A huge thank you to those serving on the UAND Board, supporting our organization and helping us all move forward as dietitians in our state. These are volunteer positions, and a lot of time and effort goes into taking on these roles. Here on the blog we spotlight board members who are so willing to share their time and expertise on behalf of dietitians in Utah.

Introducing Robin Aufdenkampe!

  •  What is your current role in UAND and the responsibilities associated with it?  At this time I’m in the President-Elect position.  My responsibilities are to attend the UAND Board meetings and participate in the Pillar activities, particularly the Education Pillar.  I also attend the UAND social events and in some cases I have the ability to coordinate an event.  This position is responsible for scheduling the meetings for next year and finding educational opportunities for UAND members.
  • What are you looking forward to most for this upcoming year with UAND?  As I think ahead to 2017 I’m looking forward to more membership involvement and engagement.  If we can recruit new members, engage existing members, and provide more social and education opportunities it will really strengthen our organization
  • What is your favorite food to cook and why? I love to bake.  There is a challenge to baking.  Obtaining just the right texture (flakiness, sponginess, fluffiness) and balancing sweetness or tartness requires a lot of trial and error.  Baking also allows for endless decorating opportunities, which makes your final product a piece of art.
  • If you could have any super power, what would it be?  Unlimited abilities of memorization and recall.  I love to learn and get so frustrated when I can’t remember a fact or the perfect word in the moment.
  • What are you currently doing for work? I’m a Clinical Nutrition Manager at Primary Children’s Hospital, working with a great team.  My current projects include promoting dietitian services in the outpatient setting and in clinics, pediatric malnutrition research, obtaining order-writing privileges for dietitians, and developing and promoting Telenutrition opportunities.
  • What is your favorite part of your job?  Working with my dietitian colleagues.  I work with an amazing team of highly engaged, positive, intelligent, and like-minded individuals.
  • Do you have any advice for young dietitians?  Continue to look for opportunities for growth, not only in your own education and career, but also for our profession.  Become engaged in the initiatives that impact our profession.
  • What is your favorite cookbook and why?  Julia Child’s Master the Art of French Cooking.  Great food and challenging recipes.
  • Share your own personal philosophy or favorite quote.  “What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
  • What three traits do you think define you? Love and appreciate others. Seek out challenges and adventure. Do my best.
  • What would you do if you weren’t a dietitian?  Scientist of some sort.  I think that one reason I love dietetics, there so much science involved in nutrition.
Thank you, Robin, for your service to UAND!
