Introducing Martina Cartwright!

This is the first post of our new series on our upcoming Annual Conference. Over the next 6 weeks we will be featuring bios on the wonderful speakers we have lined up to present throughout the 2-day meeting. This will give you a chance to read a bit more about each person and plan which talks to attend!

Martina Cartwright is currently the President/CEO of Beacon Science Inc. Biomedical Consulting as well as being self-employed for a consulting firm based in Scottsdale, AZ. She has participated in a great deal of research on topics from trauma/critical care to behavioral reasons for childhood obesity and everything in between.



Martina has presented a number of seminars dealing with Orthorexia including the following titles:

·      Orthorexia nervosa: when healthy eating goes haywire. San Diego Dietetic Association 2010

·      Eating disorders: Anorexia, bulimia and othrorexia. Southwestern States Osteopathic Convention 2002

·      The psychobiology and pharmacology of weight loss: A guide for understanding eating behaviors. INR/Biomed, Nationwide 2000

·      Eating disorders and compulsive overeating. INR/Biomed, Nationwide 2000

The term orthorexia is used to describe an obsession with avoiding foods which are perceived to be unhealthy. Throughout Martina’s career, she has not only touched on orthorexia and other disordered eating patterns, but she has educated, written, and researched a great deal on other topics.

Martina was recently the senior clinical research scientist for Eli Lilly & Co. for Biomedicines—Critical Care/Cardiovascular/Phenotypic Drug Discovery Program (2008-2011). She has published several journal articles as well as contributed to other magazine/on-line articles.
