2016 Annual Meeting Speaker Spotlights

Ellen Karlin, MMSc, RDN, LDN, FADA:

Ellen Karlin is a nutrition consultant and expert in the field of food allergies and intolerances.
She is a popular speaker and has lectured a wide array of professionals in the health care field. Her
contributions can be found in many nutrition publications. She has worked at the Comprehensive
Asthma and Allergy Center in Maryland for the past 25 years.
Ellen will be speaking to us about the serious and growing public health concerns of pediatric
food allergies, lactose intolerance, Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. Participants will have an
increased understanding in treating this patient population.

Sharon Palmer, RDN:

Sharon Palmer is known as “The Plant-Powered Dietitian” and has created a profession combining her love for food and writing. She has contributed to hundreds of publications, has written several books including The Plant Powered Diet, works as an editor for Today’s Dietitian, and writes daily for her popular Plant Powered Blog. She lives in Southern California and is passionate about food and environmental issues.
Sharon will be speaking to us about a plant powered, anti-inflammatory eating style.

Rick Hall, PhD, RD

Dr. Rick Hall is a nutrition educator, consultant, and public speaker who specializes in human
nutrition, exercise, and wellness. He is a professor at Arizona State University and has served in many
positions in community and professional organizations.  Rick is also an amateur endurance athlete and
successful entrepreneur.
Rick will be speaking to us about entrepreneurship and how to think innovatively, identity needs, and solve problems in new ways to help improve success in our careers.

James Painter, PhD, RD

Dr. James Painter is a nutrition expert, speaker, and educator on food psychology. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at the University of Texas, School of Public Health. Jim produced the documentary on fast food and health, Portion Size Me. He has been published in many magazines and professional journals and has traveled the world giving presentations to promote success in today’s food culture.

Dr. Painter will be speaking to us about the many aspects of food psychology and provide up to date information on disorders of lipid metabolism.

Dominik Alexander PhD, MSPH

Dr. Alexander is a Principle Epidemiologist with EpidStat Institute in Seattle and provides consulting on a wide variety of epidemiological capacities. He has extensive experience with nutritional epidemiology and has conducted many reviews on cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and body composition. He has studied a variety of dietary patterns including breakfast eating, whole foods including, meat, dairy and eggs, fish oil, caffeine, and infant formula. He has over 160 professional publications and is a popular speaker at many professional meetings around the country.
Dr. Alexander will be speaking to us on the relationship between red meat and chronic disease.

Moises Torres Gonzalez PhD:

Dr. Gonzalez is the Director of Nutrition Research at the National Dairy Council in the Chicago area.  He serves as an expert on dairy protein and dairy fat and develops scientific research strategies to
support dairy foods. He has authored over 15 professional publications in many different areas of food
science throughout an extensive science career.

Dr. Gonzalez will be speaking to us regarding hot topics surrounding dairy foods and the scientific research behind it.
