Utah State University student, Stacy Bevan, \u00a0shares the great National Nutrition Month (NNM) activity planned by the USU Student Dietetic Association using their NNM grant! \u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Get-your-plate-in-shape-challenge1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-200\" title=\"Get your plate in shape challenge\" src=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/Get-your-plate-in-shape-challenge1-1024x635.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"301\" height=\"187\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>USU dietetic student association leadership (eight members) and their advisors (two registered dietitian faculty members) developed a \u201cGet Your Plate in Shape\u201d challenge, which was offered to all USU students. USU students formed groups of four with a team leader. Nine teams joined the challenge for a total of 36 students involved.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_194\" style=\"width: 501px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/USU-NNM-teams-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-194\" class=\"size-large wp-image-194 \" title=\"USU NNM teams 1\" src=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/USU-NNM-teams-1-1024x797.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"382\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Some of the competitors fired up about nutrition!<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_195\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/screen-capture-23.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-195\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195 \" title=\"screen-capture-23\" src=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/screen-capture-23.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"438\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-195\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The remaining 4 teams ready to get their plates in shape!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Each week during the month of March, a weekly challenge was given to the teams. The challenges included fill half your plate with fruit and vegetables, get quality sleep week (Spring Break), and eat breakfast within two hours of waking up including one fruit or vegetable. The teams earned points based on how many days they completed the challenge during the week. At the end of the week the team leader would post the team\u2019s points on a <a title=\"USU LIVE LOVE NUTRITION\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/LIVE-LOVE-NUTRITION\/227514407343247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook group page<\/a>. The team with the most points at the end of the week won the prize. The <a title=\"USU LIVE LOVE NUTRITION\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/LIVE-LOVE-NUTRITION\/227514407343247\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook page<\/a> was also a useful tool to post helpful tips and encouragement to continue with the challenge. Teams were able to post pictures of them completing the challenge and recipes they enjoyed.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_202\" style=\"width: 495px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/screen-capture-24.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-202\" class=\"size-full wp-image-202\" title=\"Week 1 Submissions\" src=\"http:\/\/eatrightutah.org\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/screen-capture-24.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"485\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-202\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A few delicious submissions from week 1 of the challenge!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At the end of the month of March, the team with the most cumulative points won the grand prize. The majority of prizes were purchased from the National Nutrition Month catalog using the grant money we received from UAND and included water bottles, mugs, and reusable grocery bags. Other prizes included dietetic student association t-shirts, and fresh produce.
