Awards Information

 

 

UDA participates in nominations of outstanding dietitians in Utah for various awards from the American Dietetics Association. If you would like to recognize someone who is deserving of an award, call Artis Grady (435/865-8041), and she will assist you in determining the appropriate award and provide the nomination form. These nominations are due by February 15.

 

Awards are presented at the Utah Dietetic Association Annual Meeting. The current available awards are: Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year (RYDY), Award of Merit, Dietitian of the Year, Emerging Dietetic Leader (EDL), UDA Award of Recognition. Application forms with criteria for these awards are included on this site. All applications and nominations must be submitted by February to:

Nominations for these awards come from the membership of UDA. UDA members are therefore urged to submit nominations and recognize the efforts of their colleagues and associates. Please call Artis Grady at 435/865-8041 or e-mail to grady@suu.edu if you have questions.

Nomination Procedure

 

Nominations should include the following:

 

A letter of nomination

Two letters of support

A Nominee Data Sheet (Click here to go to the downloads page; go to “Awards” section.)

Résumé must be attached to application

Application forms MUST be typed (no hand written forms will be processed)

(Note: Previous nominations are held for one year, to be considered the following year. After that, nominations need to be resubmitted.)

Awards will be presented at the UDA Annual Meeting.

 

 

 

RECOGNIZED YOUNG DIETITIAN OF THE YEAR (RYDY)

 

Purpose:

 

To recognize a dietitian 35 years of age or younger who has demonstrated leadership qualities and performance in dietetics.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Member of The American Dietetic Association and the Utah Dietetics Association
  2. Age limit as of March 31 (in the year the award is issued), 35 years or younger.
  3. Active participation in the national and state associations.
  4. Not previously selected as an RYDY.
  5. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
  6. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, public health, public relations, community nutrition, or management in either the Association, employment, or as a volunteer.

 

 

AWARD OF MERIT

 

Purpose:

To recognize a dietitian who has demonstrated leadership and made significant contribution to the profession of dietetics.

 

Qualifications:

Nominee must meet criteria A and C, or B and C

 

  1. Service as an elected officer of UDA for a minimum of three years.
  2. Notable service to the Utah and/or American Dietetic Association
    Notable service is defined as:

 

    • Contribution to scientific knowledge
    • Dissemination of nutrition or foodservice information through the media, classroom, or community education.
    • Outstanding volunteer service in the field of dietetics
    • Sustained contribution to the state or national association.

 

  1. Is a member of ADA and UDA and not previously selected for the Award of Merit

 

 

EMERGING DIETETIC LEADER (EDL)

 

Purpose:

To recognize the competence and activities of dietitians, regardless of age, who have made distinctive contributions early in their dietetics careers.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Member of the American Dietetic Association and the Utah Dietetics Association.
  2. Initial practice experience not less than 5 years and not greater than 10 years. Interrupted careers or time periods not in practice, are not to be considered or rationed into the 5-10 years of professional practice experience.
  3. Active participation in the national and state association for at least 5 years.
  4. Not previously selected as an RYDY or RDTY.
  5. Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
  6. Demonstrated leadership, e.g., in legislation, research, education, management, etc., in the Association, community or employment.

 

 

UDA AWARD OF RECOGNITION

 

Purpose:

To recognize and thank those individuals/companies who contribute unselfishly to the dietetics profession in Utah.

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Not an RD and not a member of ADA
  2. Has contributed to dietetics in at least one of the following areas:

 

    • Scientific Knowledge
    • Technical Skills
    • Legislative Action
    • Career Opportunities

 

3.      Has demonstrated goodwill through service in the community, state, nation, or world

4.      Recognizes and promotes dietetic professionals
